The story of my PTR venture

Three years ago I got a tip from an online friend who claimed to make $200 per month from reading email, visiting websites, and promoting PTR programs.

Back then I never heard of such a thing, and I was wondering if it would really be possible to make money from home, just by clicking on links and visiting websites. I was kind of skeptical about the whole thing, but eventually I decided to give it a try.

‘Paid To Read email programs’ or shorter ‘PTR Programs’ are free to join, and they never require you to buy, sell or recruit in order to get paid.

In PTR programs your account is instantly activated after the signup process, which means you can start earning money the very same day. Soon after you signed up, the first paid emails will arrive in your mail inbox. In order to earn money from them, you will need to click the link that is provided. You will then visit the sponsor’s website, in a frame with a timer on top. When the timer (usually 30 secconds) expires, your account will be credited. Link values heavily vary, depending on the kind of advertisements and the PTR program itself. But generally the value of a paid link is between $0.001 and $0.02 . Do not trust sites that offer higher values then these, there are many scam sites out there that promise to send paid emails with values of $10 or even several hundreds of dollars, but of course no PTR Program is every going to pay these amounts of money. PTR sites usually state on their homepages what the link values are, so please keep in mind that sites promising links from 5 cent and higher are most probable a scam.

Beside from ‘Getting Paid to read email’, PTR sites often have more ways to earn: Paid to Click (PTC), Paid to Promote (PTP), Paid to Signup (PTSU) among other things like contests and games. But the most profitable way to earn money from PTR programs is to build your downlines…

PTR Programs always offer a percentage of the earnings of members that are referred by you. Some programs have multiple levels in the downline count, meaning you can earn not only from the referrals that are directly referred by you, but also the members they refer, sometimes down to 10 levels. However, most programs nowdays only pay commission over direct referrals, because many PTR program owners have lost their Paypal accounts for ‘allegedly violating Paypal’s MLM policy’

A year after being informed about PTR programs by my friend, I was making around $100 per month. A year later this was reaching $250 a month because I became successful in recruiting referrals and building downlines.

Unfortunately, many PTR programs come and go, sites are closing and popping up in no time. Programs heavily depending on low tier search engines are the most unsustainable.

After 3 years of doing PTR, I earn around $20 per month
But I have no regrets, PTR is great training for other forms of internet marketing !
